My perspective on nature changed while I was in Germany. Although I have been creating work with “nature” as my theme, how close was nature to my own life? When I thought of Europe or Western countries while in Korea, I imagined nature there to be distant, artificial, and removed from everyday human life.
However, my life in Germany is, in fact, closer to nature than my life in Korea. There is a lake right next to my home, and I often take walks at a lake near my University. Nature was literally right at my feet.
This work begins from that experience. There is no barrier or staircase between the water and people, only a gentle slope. I leave a cloth soaked with red cabbage extract on the lakeside slope. Over time, the boundaries between water and earth, nature and humans, become blurred.
Through this work, I aim to show the ambiguous relationship between myself and nature.
